Francis-Lecker Chair in Liver Research

The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the University Health Network and Sinai Health System is seeking to recruit an Academic Hepatologist for The Toronto Centre for Liver Disease at the Toronto General Hospital (200 University Avenue, Toronto), University Health Network. This position is for a 5-year term, renewable following a successful review, and supported by the Francis-Lecker Chair in Liver Research.  The anticipated start date is January 1, 2027, or as mutually agreed. The successful candidate will be an expert physician (MD or equivalent with residency and subspeciality training) in the management of acute and chronic liver disease with a strong academic track record in liver disease research with a plan to grow the dynamic, high volume, liver disease program at University Health Network both clinically and academically. The successful candidate will join the academic faculty full-time as a Clinician Scientist at UHN and be responsible for management of outpatients and inpatients with liver disease. In addition to the clinical duties, the successful candidate will hold a graduate degree (MSc/PhD) and will bring an established track record of clinical/translational research that will complement the existing strengths of the group, or grow new areas of academic excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to grow the academic hepatology research program, including leading and supporting investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical trials as well as translational liver disease research.

Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate, with a minimum income of $350,000 CAD annually, which will be a combination of fee-for-service clinical care, as well as salary support from the Francis Lecker Chair in Liver Research.   The candidate must be able to function proficiently in English. For the successful candidate, compensation will be highly competitive and with the usual income range for a senior academic hepatologist in the Province of Ontario.  Applications will be accepted until September 1, 2026, or until the position is filled.

The successful candidate must hold a MD degree, or equivalent, and Fellowship certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent, to be eligible to practice hepatology in Ontario, Canada. The successful candidate must have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
